To say that today's women's tennis can sometimes be a free for all can be seen in the last pick for the semifinal slot in the lower bottom half of the draw.
Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia is an accomplished and talented player currently ranked at #12 and she has the best head-to-head in this side of the draw. She has reached as far as the 3R here and a SF in the US Open.
Karolina Pliskova is the highest seed in this side of the draw but Sevastova has a 2-1 H2H with Pliskova, making Anastasija the default favorite on paper.
The two are expected to meet in the QFs. Sevastova may also have to dispose of Elise Mertens of Belgium and former SF here Carla Suarez Navarro before she reaches the SF.
Her prospective semifinal may be with Elina Svitolina or Johanna Konta, while in the finals, either Osaka or Halep are the most possible opponents.
